Local auto shops, dealerships work to instill confidence in consumers

Local auto businesses are working to keep cars clean during routine service and even support those who are looking for new cars in tough financial times.

Staying home so much means that your car probably isn't getting that much use... auto dealerships and repair shops are essential services, but they're seeing less and less business... kezi 9 news reporter chris lueneburg shows us how they're trying to keep their heads above water.

0:00 confidence on the car lot, eugene 0:15 jerry gregory/owner, wayne's garage 0:36 chris lueneburg 1:07 john kiefer president, kiefer automotive group just 2 cars in the garage-- where on a normal day mechanics would see 8 to 9... "we're trying to keep everybody employed and working."

Wayne's garage in springifeild is quiet these days... and owner jerry gregory thinks he knows why... "some of it is because of financial, and being out of http://work.but also, nobody wants to be exposed to this.

As i am most others i believe, we are limiting going to the store and other shops."

Gregory says car owners should still be following their maintenance schedules... and getting a tune- up if needed... the garage is taking precautions to make sure it's safe.

"wayne's garage is using covers and sanitizing wipes for high touch surfaces in your car like the steering wheel and shifter."

From the garage to the car lot-- kiefer mazda is taking many of the same precautions... and is offering deals they say they've rarely offered before-- if ever.

That's seven months no payment for select models and 4 months for the others... for buyers at any credit level.

"maybe they need a car, maybe their car broke down, or maybe their car is unreliable.

So it gives them the means to make that purchase and upgrade their transportation."

The dealership says they've made it through financial crises before... and offering a feeling of financial security is a big plus for weary consumers... "our business is off, the car industry in general is off."

Confidence for car shoppers or owners... and relief for local business.
