Harmony Spirits making hand sanitizer

They're re-purposing the alcohol to sell hand sanitizer which is in low supply.

New on daybreak the pandemic has rattled small businesses across the country.

While many are closed, one business in minnesota is finding a way to give back.

Kimt news 3's madelyne watkins joins us now to tell us how a distillery is using its product differently.

This is harmony spirits where usually, vodka and whiskey is made.

But now, they're making hand sanitizer.

Take a look.

A lot people might have the same thoughts as jimmy strozyk right now.

Hand sanitizer isn't staying on the shelves for very long, so people are having a hard time finding it.

All of these totes that you see behind me are full of neutral sprits, or alcohol, that will actually be turned into hand sanitizer to be bottled up to given to those in need.

Harmony spirits is following the recipe from the world health organization when doing this.

Right now, they're waiting on more bottles to put the hand sanitizer in.

One of the owners, larry tammel, tells me it's been overwhelming how many customers have called in, asking for the product... leaving him almost speechless.

"it's crazy, i don't know quite on what to say about that.

We're just trying to do our best and maybe this is one of the things where small businesses stepping up."

Once harmony spritis receives those bottles, they'll continue making the hand sanitizer until they can't make anymore.

And while i was there brooke and tyler, the phone would not stop ringing... so many people need it right now.
