A popular line of toy figures in the Czech Republic have begun wearing face masks along with the rest of the country to raise funds to buy equipment for medical staff fighting the novel coronavirus.

Czech toys are wearing masks to raise funds for protective gear for medical staff on the frontline The special edition plastic 'Igracek' figurines generated more than $8,750 (SOUNDBITE) (Czech) EFKO CEO, MIROSLAV KOTIK, SAYING: "We reacted in this way after households in the whole of Bohemia started sewing masks, because there was a lack of masks.

We thought if everyone else has to wear a mask, then so should Igracek." Most of the funding will go to doctors and nurses in the central Vysocina region where the company is based (SOUNDBITE) (Czech) EFKO CEO, MIROSLAV KOTIK, SAYING:"We decided that Igracek should help others and that is why 15 Crowns ($0.60) of the price of each piece will be used to buy protective aids for the people who need them on the frontline."
