Hundreds of Bangkok residents queue for food handouts during COVID-19 economic slump

Hundreds of struggling residents were queuing for food handouts this morning (April 17) in Bangkok, Thailand, as they deal with the economic problems caused by the Covid-19 coronavirus.

The pandemic has lead to widespread closures of businesses, travel restrictions, a night time curfew and a ban on all tourists entering the country.

Many locals who survive on day-to-day hand-to-mouth employment have been hit hard by the restrictions and lockdown.

Footage shows the long queues in the Don Mueang district where locals were given food parcels, free meals and cash handouts to help them.
