Lafayette are seeing how a community can come together in a time of need.

Yesterday we brought you a story about the group hosting it's first pet-food drive.

Due to an overwhelming number of people, many went home without enough food to feed their pets.

But moving forward, that may no longer be a problem.

News 18's micah upshaw shows us why.

:00-:05 :23 1:02 1:18 natsound: since wlfi did their story, the community has responded as you can see.

Nadine: we have just been overwhelmed with responses we have had hundreds of messages to our facebook page asking how can we help, how can we donate food.

Micah: for the people of greater lafayette.

Natsound: stacking pet food.

Micah: it doesn't take long to lend a helping hand.

Nadine: this is neighbors helping neighbors, this is a community helping each other at a time of crisis, and it has been so heartening and so just amazing to see.

Micah: animal advocates president nadine dolby says they've received around 10-thousand pounds of food so far.

That's ten times more than what they had to offer during the pet food pantry.

Nadine: enough to help our community get through this crisis, enough for people to be able to feel like this is one less financial stress on them.

Micah: dolby is currently planning the next pet food pantry.

In the mean time, she plans to deliver pet food to those who weren't able to get enough during the drive.

Natsound: patrick laying down dog food.

Patrick: everybody needs right now so we wanted to do what we can to help.

Micah: those stepping up to donate are pet owners as well.

They say it's like helping another family member.

Sonya & david: some people are making the choice between eating their selves or sharing their food with their animals and i don't want that.

I know what it's like to have a dog and i love my dog like my kids, so i don't want to somebody to have to make that choice.

Nadine: we need to keep animals out of shelter.the best place for animals at this time is with their families, and the only way to do that is for their families to know that they can take care of them.

Micah: in greater lafayette, micah upshaw news 18.
