Each one of the 32 musicians recorded videos of them playing in their own homes around the world.

Once all of them were combined, the first movement of Mozart's 40th symphony came to life.

It wasn't at the Gulbenkian Foundation's Grand Auditorium as they had expected, but on the internet.

The lockdown on Portugal due to the novel coronavirus meant that Lisbon-based Gulbenkian Orchestra had to cancel all their concerts in the following weeks.

However, that didn't necessarily mean they couldn't play together.

As of Tuesday (April 21), the video published on social media websites had amounted over 260,000 views.

Portugal has so far reported 21,379 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 762 deaths.

It hopes to gradually relax restrictions on shops and cultural spaces from next month.
