News channel 2's caitlin irla spoke to two local dentists who say despite concerns from patients and government officials, they are taking extra precautions to ensure safety when the time does come to reopen..

While some of us are still learning how to deal with the spread of germs during the coronavirus pandemic... for dentists... it's nothing knew.

None "dentists have always been on the forefront of viruses."

"dentists are uniquely capable of infection control because we've been doing this a long time."

Local dentists want their patients to know that when it's time to re-open, they will be safe.

"we've always taken universal precautions.

Dentists have always been very, very careful, always had sterile instruments, always clean every chair and every surface."

"it's definitely safe to come here, we've done everything that we can over and beyond any type of regulations, we comply with cdc recommendations."

Standup - "those safety precautions start before you even walk in the doors, of course with a sign out front that reminds to wear your face covering.

But once you get inside, there's so much more."

"we've installed the extra oral suctions, the intro oral suctions, the hvac systems with uvc, hepa filters with uvc."

"this is the extra oral suction, it's a high evacuation system attached to a heap filter, and what it does is you position it anywhere in front of the patients mouth and any vapors coming out of the mouth that weren't caught in the intro oral suctions we have, are caught by this."

And - patients and staff are pre- screened before entering the office, paperwork is filled out before the patient shows up for their appointment, and they wait in their car.

"it's a little bit more impersonal but it's more convenient actually."

A visit tthedentist - due-no hope to re- open june 1st... they want their patients to feel comfortable... "i believe that if things are properly implemented, patients can be very safe and confident knowing that we're able and capable of treating a patient."
