Counties causing serious damage.

There's been significant damage here and herkimer county from tonight's thunderstorm dropping trees and dropping powerlines.

Mike shermerhorn says he couldn't believe what he was hearing.

Mike shermerhorn: we are in the house we cleared out a spot underneath the workbench in the basement just in case and then we started hearing what sounded like a train coming through.

What he thought was a train was actually the sound of a dozen trees falling in his backyard.

Mike shermerhorn: i told her to get in the basement and i was ready to run for the basement i was standing at this window and overhear 100 yards away i'm watching the trees blow this way and blow this way at the same time they're blowing around in a circle and after the rain let up i went out for a walk and found those were some of the trees that i found that were down.

This tree has been uprooted out of the ground due to the storm.

Mike shermerhorn: we usually lose one or two in a bad storm but this was exceptional i mean a dozen of them in like a 20 minute period of time.

Mike says he has been out of power since late afternoon and it will be a while before he gets it back.

Mike shermerhorn:if they get it right away probably three or four or five hours more from what i understand there's three major lines down right now.

While mike is looking forward to nicer weather, he'll soend some of it cleaning up.

Mike shermerhorn: the chainsaws out tomorrow it's supposed to be nice tomorrow so i'll have a chainsaw out in the morning cleaning trees.

He says that after he cleans up the devastation hes going to take out his dirt bikes this weekend.
