More students enrolling at RCTC

The number of students enrolling for the summer is up compared to previous years, though the school isn't sure if the pandemic is playing a role in it.

This morning until 3 this new on daybreak new for you on daybreak?

Starting college is on a lot of graduates minds.

But the pandemic might have thrown a curve ball in some student's plans of going away for school.

Kimt news 3's madelyne watkins joins us live to tell us how one college in our area is seeing more students enrolling right now.

Brooke and tyler.

Students haven't been on campus here at rctc for weeks.

It's been as quiet as it is now this morning.

But that doesn't mean they're not still enrolling in classes.

In fact... it's quite the opposite.

I'm told the number of students enrolling for summer is up compared to previous years... and that's including both new and returning students.

The director of enrollment, alicia zeone can't say for sure if it's due to the fact that students don't want to travel far from home right now or if they just want to save money in the long run.

But she does tell me more students are probably doing it now to get ahead on their classes.

Zeone says there's a lot of unknown right now of what the future will hold when fall semester rolls around.

"all sorts of different what if's are still out there, of course, so anything is subject to change.

But right now, we're going forward cautiously, but proactively to make sure that we can effectively serve our students in whatever format or manner that may be."

Zeone tells me all of the summer classes at rctc will be held virtually to continue with distance learning.

Live in rochester.

Madelyne watkins kimt thank you madelyne.

???c is also allowing students that have already enrolled for the summer to have books shipped for*free.
