Memorial Day programs put on hold

Veterans say it's even more important to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

The virus.

New on daybreak new for you on daybreak?

During the pandemic... a lot of people are thinking of those fighting covi?19.

But as we head into memorial day weekend... the american legion hopes you also think about those who fought a different war.

Kimt news 3's madelyne watkins joins us this morning to explain what this holiday means to one veteran in our area.

Madelyne./// brooke.

Behind me here is soldier's field veterans memorial in rochester where every year... hundreds gather here to remember the names on these walls of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

But this year... that unfortunately won't be happening.

Here's video of what the memorial day program normally looks like.

I had a phone call with a veteran who fought in the vietnam war... joe brown.

He tells me a lot of people associate memorial day with the start of summer and forget the true meaning of what the day stands for.

And this year with a global pandemic putting services on hold... he says it's even more important to take a second and remember "they paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country and if we don't take time to pause and remember those, i'm afraid we will lose our country.

Of course, you can always come down here to soldiers field veterans memorial on your own time to honor thank you madelyne.

If you go with family members... remember
