Roll vo in monitor schools have been in uncharted waters most of the year... now summer school brings new challenges for educators.

Wcbi's bobby martinez joins us live in studio with how two school districts are handling this new round of uncharted instruction.

Starkville school district will continue distance learning for summer school..

As for the louisville municipal school district..

They are going back to in- class teaching..

But under strict guidelines..

School will soon be back in session... summer school that is... but this year it's going to be much different due to covid-19... starville high school principal, sean mcdonnall says the initial plan was to have students return to school.... but that plan soon changed... "so now we have gone to a totally virtual summer school."

So how does a virtual summer school work?

Sot - sean mcdonnall - starkville high school principal "they log on, they take a pretest.

The program sets up lessons for them.

They have to go through the lessons.

When they are ready it gives them an assessment and it is just totally online and there's no teacher involved."

And to make sure students are doing all their work... "we are going to supply the teacher who will also require the students to log on and have zoom meetings with them.

To check in with them and make sure that they are covering the material and getting everything covered that they need to."

In louisville... dr. randy grierson, superintendent of louisville municipal school districtsays summer school will take place in the classroom...with less students.

Sot - dr. randy grierson - superintendent - louisville municipal school district "we start our program as an invite for students that we felt needed the assistance more than any because of social distancing and those kind of things.

We have the ability to make the classes smaller and have that individualized instruction by the teacher using the resources we have to make sure that we provide the best opportunity we can for our kids to get what they missed."

Grierson says they also have a plan to make sure students stay distant and safe at all times..

"no more than six per classroom per teacher.

For the kids that are coming they are isolated in that one room.

We will have three on each side of the room and we will go and teach the standards that we feel that they need to know before they go to the next level."

Roll vo in monitor summer school for starkville high school starts june 15..
