New at ten... we're hearing from the young lady who says she tried to do a good deed and give a guy a ride.

Instead she inadvertently took him to a location where officials say he stole a military vehicle - then tried to run over a deputy!

Nathan lowe is still behind bars in franklin county.

He's charged with d-u-i, assault, and other charges.

Shiane smith told waay31 - lowe told her he needed to get to his kids.

So -- she decided to give him a ride.

But then he started acting strange.

He told her he just smoked meth.

In this surveillance video you can see smith pull into c-j's grocery on highway 24.

She ran in and got help from the gas station owner -- justin boyles.

It felt like it was 100 miles from the gas pump to the door but as soon as i got in i went straight to justin and said please help me get this man out of my car boyles helped smith get away from lowe and tried to calm him down.

Lowe then walked down the road and stole a military vehicle.

He led police on a chase.

A franklin county deputy confronted lowe and says lowe tried to run him over!

The deputy shot out the vehicle's tires.

That helped slow him down and then officers arrested him.
