The Allen County Election Board is encouraging voters to send in their applications now, to ensure they will receive one of the first ballots which will be sent out September 18.

The 20-20 election is just 3 months away and local groups are starting to get the word out about registering to vote.

Fox 55's jeremy masukevich spoke to local elections officials about their plan to keep voters safe.

Nat beth 18:52we were working a lot of overtime hours trying to get everything done.

And a lot of that was because we just didn't have the space director of elections beth dlug says the allen county election board was pressed for both time and space during the primary electionprompting them to move operations to the war memorial coliseum.sot beth 19:08with this space we are going to be able to hire the people we need so we can handle what we expect to be an increase in mailed voting even more then what we had in the primary.dlug says the pandemic has made it easy to lose track of time she is encouraging voters to send in their applications now to ensure they will receive one of the first ballots sent out september 18th.sot beth 22:05 if you are eligible to vote by mail, please do so.

That starts october 6thlower third: betsy kachmar, league of women voters fort wayne membership chair sot betsy 25:52normally this time of year we would be going to festivals, having tables, and information all over the place, handing out brochures.

And we just can't do that anymore.

Betsy kachmar with the league of women voters fort wayne says they teamed up with students from canterbury high school who are now extending the group's reach on social media.nat betsy 30:00we have a pretty robust facebook page and we are now venturing into the land of instagramsot betsy 25:42we were looking for ways to reach out to the younger voters and also to step up our game on the social media because that's really the only way to get in touch with people now.to encourage more young voters to register ... the lwvfw is entering everyone who engages with their new instagram page into a drawing to win giftcards.kachmar hopes the initiative will also create an easier voting process for the election board.
