Indiana School Resource Officers Encourage Masking Up

Though Indiana school resource officers can't enforce masks wearing at school, they're hoping to be a positive influence to students when it comes to mask wearing.

After speaking with educators and school resource officers, it clear that indiana schools have a plan in place to keep students masked up during the school day, even if it not enforced by a school resource officer.

"the sross, our school resource officers in school, will not be enforcing the masks.

That s not their responsibility, just as we don t enforce dress codes or other school policies.

I think the teachers will be the primary ones dealing with the kids and the masks."

The state wide mask mandate is based on cdc guidelines and a mandate by the governor there are no criminal repercussions, so indiana resource officers will not play a role in this enforcement but sheriff wilder does think that his officers will be able to be a positive influence on the student.?if our deputies can educate or help kids and lead by example wearing it and following the guidelines, they will be doing that, so those kids will see that.

I sure the teachers, the principals, everyone throughout that building, i sure talking to the school, will be doing the same thing.

I think these kids, i not worried about it, i think theyl follow policy and get right in line, like i said, probably better than a lot of adults?

And 44 news spoke with 2 former educators that also believe that requiring students to wear masks won be too difficult if parents and teachers approach it the right way.?ie seen the idea to only allow your child to have screen time while theye wearing a mask, so they get used to that.

One teacher said, in her classroom, she going to tell the kids that it an outer space theme, so when theye at their desk, it safe to breathe, but when they get up and away from their desk, they have to wear a mask, because theye in a different atmosphere."

And another thing that school resource officers will be helping out with this year is the increase in car riders and making sure that the roads are safe as children enter and leave school.
