This school year has created a unique set of challenges for parents, due to the covid-19 pandemic.

One topic of debate among parents has been picking between in-person classes (or e-learning.

Tsc says 80 percent of families choose to do in-person learning.

While 20 percent choose e-learning.

In a news 18 exclusive, i spoke to local parents about their tough decisons.

"i don't think there's any right, or any wrong" virtual learning (or in- person learning...that was a big choice parents faced this year.

Melanie nemacheck and elizabeth damm were two of those decision making parents.

.

Namacheck chose to have her daughter attend in-person classes.

Her daughter is in 8th grade at battle ground middle school.

"we feel with all of the safety measures that tsc has put in place, that being in-person classes were the best fit for her" damm, decided in- person learning was (not the best decision for her child.

Her son is in the 5th grade at sunnyside intermediate school.

She chose e-learning for her child.

"i mean blanket statement there's so much unknown about a virus he could contract being in school" all schools, not only across tippecanoe county, but across the state have implemented different safety measures.

Both parents believe there really isn't a right or wrong choice.

And while they both made different decisions, they both believe it needs to be specific to your child's educational needs.

Damm was worried about how comfortable her son would feel.

"that seemed like it would be more stressful than anything.... like he just wouldn't have a good time being there he would be so worried about all the other guidelines he needs to follow" damm said she agrees with the regulations now in place, however the decision to be back in the classroom wouldn't have been the best for her son.

Nemecheck said the safety measures played a big role in her decision to send her daughter to school.

"i feel very confident that they can keep their distance and keep their mask on and do the task at hand and that's learning."

As many parents would say, every child has a different learning style.

That's why damm and nemecheck say there isn't a right or wrong choice... it just depends on what your child needs.

"whatever works at your house is best for your house.

And you know any parents who feels that at home is better for their student, they know their student.

That's their child and they know them and i know mine."

"it's been really though and i know a lot of people fight about sending your kid of not sending your kid, and like we're all trying the best we can to make the best decision" as classes continue in the wlfi veiwing area, news 18 will continue to monitor the covid-19 pandemic.

As well as the impact it has on schools.
