Good evening and thank you for joining us... indiana state university has made a major decision.

School leaders have canceled all in-person greek activities.

At 5 o'clock..we told you some students aren't happy about this decision.

News 10's richard solomon has more from students.

He joins us now live in our newsroom and breaks down their thoughts on this change..

This moratorium means greek students can't hold any in person activities.

And some isu students i spoke with say this decision came as a huge blow.

Some say the coronavirus has taken away all the fun this year had in store.

For some indiana state university students...there isn't much to look forward to this year..

"all those memories that the greek community would have..it was just taken away from us in just one statement just like that" indiana state school leaders say too many greek students are in self isolation and quarantine because of covid-19.

That's why they've issued a moratorium canceling all in-person greek activities.

Madeline hittel says the timing couldn't have been any worse.

"this was a week prior to the primary panhellenic sorority recruitment happening this fall.

It definitely takes away the peace of freedom of feeling like you are your own person and you're an adult" university leaders say this is a proactive step to take preventing an outbreak.

"this was not an easy decision to make but a necessary decision" mark alesia is the director of university communication for the school.

He says 34% of the people who are in quarantine and isolation...are greek.

But the greek population on campus only makes up 17%.

"what we want to avoid is something that happened at other universities and that's having to quarantine entire houses.

We're trying to avoid that by addressing it now" alesia says there's still no timeline on how long this could last.

But students like hittel say they just want to enjoy what's left of their school year.

"it takes away the college experience.

Who am i to say that making friends via zoom is the best way" school leaders say they're working to track covid-19 data with the vigo county health department.

Many are hoping this won't last long.
