Vigo County Grandparents set up tree house to make grandson’s remote learning fun

The vigo county school corporation announced what the next three weeks will look like.

We first brought this news to you yesterday... as a reminder.... the corporation will stay on the a/b schedule for three more weeks.

Communications director for the corporation told us the reduction of the number of students in school buildings has helped their staff tremendously.

It has allowed them to enforce procedures to keep schools healthy.

We just told you covid-19 has caused students here in vigo county to participate in remote learning.

This can be an adjustment, not only for students, but for parents too.

One set of grandparents has eased the burden of this stress in an extremely creative way.

News 10's dominic miranda explains how one vigo county student is learning in style.

[take pkg outcue: soc duration:1:45] instead of doing your remote learning inside at a dining room table.... wouldn't you rather be here.

Outside in the fresh air during the fall?

One set of vigo county grandparents went above and beyond to make their grandsons learning experience one to brag about.

Reese wilbur is a 5th grader at fayette elementary in west terre haute.

Both of his parents work... so his grandparents watch and help him on his remote learning days.

But his grandma kathy... wanted to make his learning experience a little more fun.

"how do i make this so he wants to do it?

And being a teacher i always loved to kind of think outside of the box so i looked out here and i thought let's go to the treehouse.

Let's do someplace where there's no interruptions and it's a different environment and different surroundings.

So it really kind of allowed us to establish a quiet place to come.

So when he came down the first day i said you have a choice, we can go to the dining room table or the tree house, and he said let's go to the tree house."

Reese took me on a tour of his new classroom... and told me what he loves most about it.

"we work in here everyday.

Well everyday i'm not in school.

It's very quiet out here so we come out here to get a little silence out here.

We got our desk.

We got some windows.

It's really cool that they can help me out with my stuff.

And it's just nice to be able to have somebody that can help me while my parents are at work."

Just one way a vigo county family is making remote learning the best it can be for their child.
