Health experts say this labor day weekend should be spent away from crowds.

In monitor normally a time to celebrate the end of summer - and look ahead to the beginning of fall, health experts say this labor day weekend should be spent away from crowds, family members with fragile immune systems and public spaces.

Wcbi's bobby martinez talked with sheriffs from both oktibbeha and clay county on what folks should expect from their staff this holiday weekend..

It'll be a challenge for the people in charge of enforcing social distancing here in mississippi.

The possibility of the labor day weekend drawing large gatherings.

The sheriffs from both oktibbeha and clay counties say they understand folks want to enjoy their weekend with family and friends.

But they are asking that everyone does it safely.

---have a good time - but, be smart -- "be responsible don't get behind the wheel of that car if you've been drinking..

It is absolutely not worth it."

And know "if there is some type of large gathering..

We probably will get calls to 911 and if we get them, we will respond."

Those are a few warnings from local sheriffs departments heading into labor day weekend.

In clay county, sheriff eddie scott is hoping people remember the 10 pm - 5 am curfew.

Sot - eddie scott - clay county sheriff "so far here in the county we've had pretty good success with people you know be mindful of the governors orders in our curfews so again we just ask that everybody continue because we're still dealing with covid cases and we just want everyone to be safe and all of our community to work together as a whole."

Scott says he understands people want to have a good time with family friends.

But says it is important that folks don't let their guard down.

Sot - eddie scott - clay county sheriff "we want everybody to have fun nobody's saying that you can't.

But we are just asking again to use common sense and if you got outside gatherings you know everybody just social distance as best as you can."

In oktibbeha county.

Sheriff steve gladney says extra deputies will be patrolling the county this weekend.

Sot - steve gladney - oktibbeha county sheriff "i still think traffic will probably be heavy throughout the weekend.

People traveling last holiday for the summer vacation and you know i'll have extra deputies out patrolling through the weekend they will be looking, you know for the drunk drivers."

Gladney says students returning to campus..

Have posed several challenges for the county.

"right now we are dealing with lots of large parties and things you know, we have been for the last couple of weeks especially in these apartment complexes.

You know they call us and we will come in and ask them to leave and break it up and try to keep those large groups down.

We are still encouraging the social distancing and that type thing."
