Fighting for a future

Pleasant Valley senior Sean Saise practices ten times a week for hours a day to make his dreams come true.

New at 5:30... one local athlete is catching scholarships from all over the west coast despite dealing with a pandemic and the california wildfires... action news nows vanessa romo joins us in studio, vanessa how is he handling this all... hes finding inspiration through a local hero... that hero, just happens to be family.

--- ten times a week a day --- pleasant valley senior sean saise is out here putting in the work& football is more than a sport to me it's a lifestyle i grew up playing since i was 5, this is my 12th season& so it's weird this is my first fall not playing& despite that the wide receiver's work netted him four scholarship offers from pacific university, whittier college, culver stockton and puget sound university.

I feel like i can do anything at this point& it was a feeling that you could only feel once really i wasn't really expecting it, it was kind of out of the blue& years of hard work finally paying off& but a moment in time he wanted to experience with the one who helped him get him there.

He was like the first person i called because the rest of my family was there when i got them so& it was hard though because we would always talk about it& like when that offer was going to come.

Sean's father is a fire captain for cal fire paradise& he's been gone for 10 days& due to the fires burning across the state& but wednesday, alejandro sais came home.

It always hard that why it was great to get off this morning and come home,,, sometimes when you miss a lot of time with your family you miss them a lot& sean says his father was his first coach and continues to be his mentor even when away& he contacts him after every update.

It would've been nice to see it in person but it's part of the game and life of being a firefighter, but im proud of him either way& as a frontline worker, alejandro instilled in his kids to never give up& never lose sight.

Sean never did especially during these trying times.

It hurts us seniors especially during these times, it hurts me especially knowing that my dad is on shift half the month more than half the month at this point.

You cant really down yourself at the end of the day you have to push through& for sean& this is just the beginning& he's a fighter&&.

Just like his dad.

Sean says he has not committed yet and is hoping to earn more offers during the football season.

Vanessa romo action news now coverage you can count on.
