I've seen a lot of cars drive down highway 231 this evening.

You can see it's pretty busy right now... project engineers say this could have taken years to complete, but the alabama department of transportation made decisions to speed up the process.

The alabama department of transportation spent about 4.2 million dollars on equipment and materials to get the project done ahead of schedule-- region engineer curtis vincent also says several people worked 24 hours a day multiple days a week to get ahead of the december second deadline.

Reed contracting started the project by removing about 200,000 cubic yards of first and debris from the area in may... then the 14 point six million dollar bridge construction started on june first.

"and i am so proud of every person involved and when i say every person i'm talking about engineers all the way down to the labors.

Its takes everybody to pull a project like this together."

Governor ivey released this statement today saying " not only has a repair and improvement been made to the infrastructure, but it was completed more than two months ahead of schedule, thanks to the state working hard with a private sector partner.

An incentive was made for the project to be finished early-- the contractor will now receive nearly 2.5 million dollars.

The alabama department of transportations says temporary single lane closures could be possible in the future, live in lacey's spring, casey albritton, waay 31
