New tonight at 9--- a high speed chase in western indiana-- ends in an officer- involved shooting.

But this pursuit--all started as a carjacking here in the river city.... 44news reporter megan diventi spoke with the victim----and reports the latest tonight.

"it happened right there.

Exactly where that truck was parked."

It was a sunday unlike any other for kathryn lee of evansville--- it was just before 2 in the morning----and she had just left work---- "i was in my car getting ready to go inside when all of a sudden a man approached my car and he asked if i had a charger..."

Lee says that's when the man pulled a gun on her--- "first i went in defense mode and he tried to open my door and he opened it and i refused to get out of the car, but when he shot the gun i was like let him have it, it doesn't really matter."

Lee says she was on the ground at gunpoint---- but after the man took off--- she ran to neighbors to get help--- "i just kind of started banging on doors to see if anybody would help me because--he had taken my phone-- he actually threw it but i didn't know it at the time."

The suspect is 23- year-old man from milwaukee wisconsin state police say the pursuit crossed county lines--reaching 120 miles per hour ----before deputies flattened his tires-- i-s-p says he exchanged gunfire with troopers....the suspect is now in the hospital "it was more comforting to know he wasn't from evansville, so i knew it wasn't somebody in the area."

For lee---she says she's still working to process everything that happened.

"i have always said it's important we have compassion for people no matter what.

He was only 23.

He was my age.

So something leads people to do things that they do and it's important to remember that nonetheless he's still a person."

Indiana state police the officers involved in the incident have been placed on routine administrative leave.... reporting in evansville, md, 44news.
