Celebrating Halloween safely and other things you can do to be festive

The month the month of october is almost here.

Folks are looking forward to halloween.

But it may look a little bit different this year.

News 10's bri shackelford spoke with the health department today on how we should go about celebrating the holiday.

Celebrating halloween will still be fun for many people this year.

While we are in stage 5 that doesn't mean we are in the clear just yet.

Officals say is because everyone is working together to stop the spread of the virus.

But...they told us... we have to be more cautious now that we are in stage 5... espicially when celebrating holdiays.

"with halloween coming up most of the typical activities that we do for halloween are actually considered high risk for covid-19 exposure by the cdc."

Halloween parties, trunk-or-treat events, or even trick or treating are all condisidered high risk events.

The vigo county health department recommends you stay outdoors this year when celebrating.

But..when it comes to trick-or-treating they ask you to do this.

"and maybe only go to houses of people you know.

I know that's not really what trick-or-treating's always about but this year's definitely going to be a little different."

To still celebrate this holdiay the c-d-c has some low risk activites that are a safe alternative.

You can carve pumpkins with your family, decorate your house with people you've been in contact with... or even have a virtual costume contest.

The health department says doing these activies will be fun... and not put us at risk for going back into more restrictions.
