We're hearing from the post office about voter safety and fraud as people prepare to mail-in their ballots.

"* just this afternoon cerro gordo county alone has nearly 75 hundred requests for absentee ballots.

That's nearly 18 percent of the population.

It will be a big job for the postal service to make sure the ballots get there on time and county officials will be staying vigilant to protect those votes.

Xxx "i'm going to vote in person, but i'm voting early, because we're leaving for the winter."

They'll be adding extra transportatio n to handle the increased volume.

Postal employees are also going to be working some overtime.

Voter john garcia tells me he plans on voting by mail this election.

He's not worried about his ballot making it to the county auditor's office by election day.

"i think so, i have confidence in them."

*- election officials will work hard to protect the integrity of the november election.

"* election misconduct is taken very seriously in the state of iowa.

A first degree charge is considered a class 'd' felony.
