Furious police closed a water park after thousands of locals in Covid-ravaged Indonesia had a POOL PARTY.

Bungling managers threw the bash that went out-of-control when they included a 50 per cent discount for tickets in North Sumatra province on September 28.

Footage shows thousands of revelers dancing and splashing in the pool without any social distancing or face masks - despite the country imposing strict rules due to the pandemic.

Footage of the gathering emerged and officers and they raided the Hairos Waterpark, in Deli Serdang, for allegedly breaking coronavirus restrictions.

Adjunct Senior Commissioner of Police Irsan Sinuhaji, Deputy Chief of the Medan City Police Resort, said: ''From the results of our interrogation with the management of the tourist site, we concluded that they did not submit the proposals to the authority.

''Even the area around the pool was not disinfected.'' The water park manager said that staff did not restrict the number of visitors to the pool party.

They lowered the price of tickets because they wanted to boost their business after being badly affected by the coronavirus downturn.

The police chief said there were more than 2,800 people who attended the pool party.

He added: "On the grounds of being affected by the pandemic, the management had a visitor ticket discount of up to 50 per cent.

This caused many residents to come.'' Officers from the North Sumatra Covid 19 Handling Acceleration Task Force temporarily closed the water tourism location.

The General Manager of Hairos Waterpark, Edi Sahputra, was questioned on suspicion of violating the Health Quarantine Law.

Edi faces a maximum criminal sentence of one year, and / or a maximum fine of IDR 100 million (around 6,744 USD).

Edi apologized to the community and admitted that he was negligent because he held a pool party that made many people crowd without implementing health protocols.

He said he wanted to boost revenue at the water park after coronavirus restrictions affected their sales.

Indonesia has suffered more than 307,000 cases of Covid-19 and 11,253 deaths, as of October 5.
