10212020 Mount Vernon Suspect

Suspect in the Mount Vernon Case turns himself in.

Involving the murder of a mount vernon woman in september.

The suspect has been arrested after turning himself into the lexington police department.

26-year-old arturo perez has admitted to police of killing 54-year-old famey hellard.

Hellard is the owner of the glitter box off of richmond road... she's also a mother and a grandmother.

She was inside the store alone at the time of the murder.

"miss hellard was a pillar of this community.

She owned a local business.

She would probably gave this guy anything she had, the shirt off her back, or gave him a few dollars to give him something to eat.

It's just a a shame that this happened in our small community."

State police say perez was a drifter just walking up and down the interstate when he decided to rob the glitter box but they aren't exactly sure why thing went bad.

He is now currently in the mount vernon jail.

According to the mount vernon chief of police this was the first murder in the community since the early 90's.

Trooper pennington says the community can now rest knowing perez is behind bars.
