Inmate Voting in the election
Just what are the rules?

Among those eligible to vote in the upcoming election?

"*?

*- are some people in the lockup.

Kimt news 3's jeremy wall is live from the olmsted county adult detention center with more.

Jeremy?

George ?

"* those locked up here who have not been convicted of a felony are indeed eligible to vote.

I'm learning some will this year.

With just a couple weeks until election day?

"*inmates here at the olmsted county adult detention center can actually cast their ballot, as well.

According to the state, a criminal record still allows inmates to vote.

And in talking with some of those behind bars here?

"* we're learning they're planning to exercise that right.

Aries candler has been at the adult detention center for months and is only learning about this now.

I've been an inmate for about ten months and i did not know it was possible to vote in jail do you plan to this year yes i do other inmates like jonathan stier only learned they can vote this week.

I plan on voting here on a paper ballot i guess were you aware prior to coming to jail it is possible to vote as long as you are not serving under a felony yeah i wasn't aware of that until last night actually durand ackman, the detention center's program sergeant has been working there for two decades.

He claims historically, they've never had many inmates express interest in voting.

In the past, what we've done is, we give them the paper now there are 90 inmates currently in the building.

Sergeant durand ackman tells me he doesn't know how many will be voting.

But they will help inmates interested in voting..... get registered.

Live from the olmsted county adult detention center, jeremy wall, kimt news 3.

Thanks jeremy.

The votes from the inmates will be absentee ballots.
