Vigo County burn ban remains in effect

Many counties in the wabash valley are still under burn bans -- even after a few days of rain.

News 10 contacted the vigo county emergency management agency to learn why a burn ban was recenty extended in the county.

Friday... the vigo county board of commissioners announced the burn ban would be extended through october 30th.

The board's decision is based on guidance from local fire chiefs.

Experts say... even though we've gotten rain recently... we are still below average for this time of year.

"there are still areas that are still quite dry.

There are going to be farming machinery out in the fields.

We still have crops being brought in.

So there is still somewhat of a risk of a brush fire."
