Katie... george... today the city council took a list of applicants and selected five to be interviewed for the job.

Now critically... thse candidates will not be interviewed until the new city council is elected.

Once the next set of commissioners has been seated... they'll take the lead in hiring a city administrator from the shortlist of candidates selected today.

While some officials expressed interest in adding more applicants to the list... council member nick campion says the five finalists are <"we're lucky on a second pass to get just stellar candidates, i think up and down.

I think the fact that people want to look beyond this is just less about the quality of candidates that were in the top 12 and more about the candidates that didn't make the top 12.

And the next person to fill the city administrator role will be responsible for implementing policies in a year when rochester's operating budget will be cut by tens of millions of dollars.
