A breaking news update on the uah hockey program!

In the last hour -- the university announced the hockey team will drop the puck on their season next week.

This comes after the team was nearly cut from the university's program!

Waay 31's lynden blake goes over what else is needed for the program to survive.

Uah hockey starts next friday, after a whirlwind off season, featuring a rivival of the program, the university, alumni, and advisory board pledged 17 million dollars to uah hockey for the next 10 years.

Vo: uah athletic director cade smith says 17 million is just the bare minimum to survive.

Charger alumni want the hockey program to thirve, so the fight to get uah hockey on top of the college hockey world continues.

Finances, smith says is step one.

Step two is getting into a new conference... step three, getting a new multi-purpose facility... sot vo continues: last year, uah announced an executive plaza plan.

The new facility would be part of that bigger plan.

On cam: the puck drops for uah november 20... today the western collegiate hockey association announced the testing protocols... players will be tested three times a week during the season.
