State.

You're taking a live look over guntersville this morning from the waay 31 sky cam network.

Students from two city schools will head back to in-person classes in just a few hours.

Waay 31's sierra phillips met with the superintendent - and learned what the district did while students were away.

Sierra?

This morning cherokee elementary and guntersville middle are deep cleaned and ready for students to walk through the doors for the first time in 2 weeks!

Their return comes a few days after guntersville high school students went back to in-person class as well!

Superintendent brett stanton told me the district has nearly 20 active coronavirus cases.

And more than 150 people are in quarantine!

Both cherokee elementary and guntersville middle were forced to close because so many faculty and staff members were exposed to coronavirus.

The superintendent told me that managing staffing has been one of the toughest aspects of this school year.

Stanton- "it's really been a challenge its almost been a game day decision at times but its been a very challenging process at times to decide do we go virtual or do we remain traditional...its been a real challenge."

Stanton added that any decision they make is done in the best interest and safety of students.

And of the more than 150 people quarantined - 135 are students!
