Devices critical for current learning, local lawmakers say

The Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District distributed new Chromebooks Wednesday to students.

Here at partnership middle school administrators passed out chromebooks to students and parents today.

On november 4th the district began passing out almost 4200 chromebooks to students.

The district recieved new chromebooks from the mississippi department of educcation for all students 2nd through 12th grade and ipads for children in kindergarden and 1st grade.

Teachers got all new laptops delivered today.

Nat sound the district purchased the devices with funds from the mississippi legislature through the equity in distance learning.

Two state representatives were at the school to learn how the chomebooks work and how they will help the studetns.

Rob robertson, state representative "whether we are dealing with covid or not, we are moving those kids into the 21st century and beyond."

State representative roberston says the chromebooks will help if the school district has to shut down or if students go soley to virtual learning.

"if we do have to shut the schools down, that doesnt mean we have to shut learning down."

State represetnative tayor says about 2 dozen busses from the district have wifi on them in case students do not have internet at home.

Cheikh taylor, state representative "so they will be deployed to different parts of the county and city so those who don't have internet will be able to do it through this."

Some students are already getting to use the new chromebooks in the classroom.

Students will have to turn in the chromebooks at the end of the school year.
