RPS teams up with Channel One Regional Food Bank for distribution.

Coronavirus rochester public schools teaming up with channel one regional food bank to distribute meals to those in need.

The distribution takes place twice a week until the end of the year.

Kimt news 3's maleeha kamal was at today's food distribution and has more on the story.

I'm here at graham park where the food distribution is taking place.

I was told that the need for food was so great that they had to have two building that were used for food distribution.

Nats:"we have a line around the block."

Getting cars in and out required volunteers to work seamlessly.

Nats: with it snowing outside you know the weather is bad usually we expect a lower turnout but today i'd say that our turnout was still pretty good we were able through all of our meals.

Last week they ran out of food.

Channel one's jessica sund says this week they're doing things differently to ensure nobody is turned away.

Sund:"two different building that we are operating out of.

We got about 2,000 meals from rps and 1,500 from channel one."

Kids are out of school, famili ... and trips to grandmas for thanksgiving are cancelled, combining to increase the need.

"*pandemic one in eleven minnesotans faced food insecurity.

Now that number is one in eight and sund says the need could easily increase.

Sund:"people are trying to debate whether to pay their bills or buy food."

Volunteers are happy people are stocking up.

Volunteer:"we had a really good response from the community and with all the volunteers that we've been getting."

Sund:"people are so grateful.

We have kids waving through windows."

Visitors received prepared meals for each individual in the household, plus five days
