The city of Lafayette released renderings this evening of what the new 55 million dollars public safety building and the parking garage will look like.

It was part of a public forum the city held via zoom.

The mayor as well as the police chief say this new building is needed especially since in the last 100 years the city's population has more then tripled.

The garage will suppo both the city staff and the public.

Along with that the new building will provide police with new technologies which will allow them to have more time for community involvement and policing.

Our vision is relationships our vision is how do we work with the public how do we bring the police department and the public togethe.

And how do we give our officers the tools so they go home safely at night and they keep us all safe.

The new building and garage will be built on the south side of columbia street, between 6th and 7th streets, in downtown lafayette.

The city hopes to begin construction in the spring of 2021.
