Nearly 10 million ordered to evacuate in Japan due to Typhoon Nanmadol

Powerful Typhoon Nanmadol hits southwestern Japan, bringing strong winds and heavy rain.

Authorities have urged nearly three million residents to evacuate due to the storm, and the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has issued a rare "special warning" for the Kagoshima region in southern Kyushu -- an alert issued only when it forecasts conditions seen once in several decades.

More than 300,000 households in Japan’s southwestern island of Kyushu are out of power as Typhoon Nanmadol moves over the country, Kyushu Electric Power Company said.
