Jupiter Now Has More Moons , Than Any Other Planet.
NBC News reports that 12 new moons have been discovered around Jupiter.
The new discovery puts the planet's moon count at 92.
Saturn is a close second with 83 moons.
The new Jupiter moons were detected in 2021 and 2022 with telescopes in Hawaii and Chile.
They range from 0.6 miles to 2 miles in size.

NBC News reports that Jupiter and Saturn's small moons are likely fragments of bigger moons that used to exist.
The European Space Agency will send a spacecraft to Jupiter in April to study the planet and its moons.
NASA's Europa Clipper will launch next year to explore one of the planet's moons as well.
