A 30-year-old U.S. citizen was taken into custody in Germany Thursday after allegedly assaulting and shoving two American tourists into a steep gorge near Germany’s Neuschwanstein castle, leaving one woman dead.
Authorities said the American man lured the two female tourists, aged 21 and 22, down a trail near the castle Wednesday afternoon before physically attacking the younger woman.
When the 22-year-old woman attempted to intervene, the assailant pushed her down the ravine and attempted to sexually assault the younger woman before pushing her down the gorge as well.
The 22-year-old was found responsive and taken to a hospital; the 21-year-old was airlifted to a different hospital and died overnight.
