The mayor of a town in Mexico has tied the knot with an alligator.
Victor Hugo Sosa is the mayor of a town named San Pedro Huamelula in southern Mexico.
The town populates mostly Indigenous Chontal people in the Tehuantepec Isthmus of Mexico.
The mayor married a female alligator in a traditional ceremony believed to bring good fortune.
The reptile apparently represents a ‘princess girl’ in local lore.
The alligator was named Alicia Adriana.
As onlookers clapped and danced, the mayor entered into holy matrimony with the female reptile.
The reptile is a caiman, which means it’s an alligator-like marsh dweller endemic to Mexico and Central America.
