First Nation on Vancouver Island declares marine protected area

The Tsawout First Nation has declared 155 square kilometres of the Salish Sea as an Indigenous Protected and Conserved Area. The Nation says it’s taking over jurisdiction to make sure it can remediate the environment, manage fisheries, and make sure it can get back its traditional food sources.
