BoxPower, the company that builds turnkey solar power and battery units, is vying for a $1 million grant from the California Energy Commission to further commercialize its products. The Grass Valley company builds self-contained and automated solar power systems out of shipping containers or on shipping pallets that can power businesses or groups of homes.
