Yandal Resources Ltd (ASX:YRL) is about to begin a 12,500-metre program of reverse circulation (RC) and aircore drilling at key prospects in the highly prospective Yandal Greenstone Belt in Western Australia. The new program is designed to test priority brownfields targets at the Ironstone Well, Barwidgee and Mt McClure projects. RC drilling for groundwater and dewatering test-work as part of the Flushing Meadows open pit feasibility study will be included and is scheduled to start next month. Geotechnical drilling Recent geotechnical diamond core drilling returned a number of encouraging mineralised intervals from transitional and primary zones at Flushing Meadows including: 9.90 metres at 1.88 g/t gold from 119.1 metres including 1-metre at 10.52 g/t; and 9 metres at 2.11 g/t from 89 metres including 1-metre at 8.84 g/t. Ironstone Well program A combination aircore and RC drill program totalling around 6,200 metres is planned to be completed before mid-December and will test several targets on the prospective Barwidgee Shear Zone. These are along strike from Flushing Meadows deposit and include the Quarter Moon, Oblique and Flinders Park prospects. Historic mineralisation has been intersected at these prospects and the purpose of the drilling is to confirm this mineralisation, and if successful design more comprehensive resource confirmation RC programs. As part of the current Flushing Meadows open pit feasibility study, a water bore will be installed and various dewatering tests conducted utilising recently equipped diamond holes as monitoring bores. A number of intercepts were returned from four diamond holes completed primarily for geotechnical and hydrogeological purposes. Results from these holes will not be included in the current mineral resource estimate update as the compilation of it is well advanced and the diamond hole collar locations have not been adequately surveyed. The company plans to include these assay results in subsequent resource estimate updates when accurate differential global positioning system surveys are available. Barwidgee project At Barwidgee project, adjacent to Ironstone Well, a combination aircore and RC drill program totalling around 950 metres is planned to test priority early-stage targets at the Rosewall, Woolshed Well, Copan, Barty and Grohls prospects. At the brownfields Sims Find prospect, 38 resource-style RC holes for 2,262 metres drilled on a 40 by 80 metre pattern are planned to confirm historic mineralisation above 50 metres depth and for around 300 metres along the strike. Mt McClure project The company plans to drill 26 RC holes for a total of around 3,000 metres to confirm known mineralisation at Mt McClure, which is 20-28 kilometres from the Bronzewing processing facility of Northern Star Resources Ltd (ASX:NST) A follow-up program will also be planned if the results are successful. The company believes Mt McClure represents a clear opportunity to leverage off substantial historic drilling beneath and along strike from the success, Parmelia and Challenger open-pit mines. Next steps Key exploration and development activities planned during the December quarter include: Start 12,500-metre RC and aircore program in the Yandal Belt; Receive and review pending results from the remainder of the RC and aircore programs at the Gordons project; Complete maiden resource estimate and diamond drill program for Gordons Dam; Conduct sighter metallurgical test-work on Gordons Dam mineralised intervals; and Complete groundwater, geotechnical assessment, resource update, pit optimisation and design for Flushing Meadows.
