Kangaroo Island Plantation Timbers takes key KI Seaport step with road and traffic process

Kangaroo Island Plantation Timbers Ltd (ASX:KPT) has taken another step towards being able to export from the proposed KI Seaport by reaching agreement with South Australia’s Department for Infrastructure and Transport on a process for detailed planning and management of road use and traffic management. The company, which is seeking approvals for the port on Kangaroo Island’s north coast, has also sought to engage in a similar process with Kangaroo Island Council. “Another milestone” Managing director Keith Lamb said: “On the first anniversary of the 2019-20 wildfires, KPT is pleased to have completed another milestone towards the approval for the proposed KI Seaport at Smith Bay. "KPT welcomed the opportunity to deal with road and traffic matters and provide information that previously was to be part of the secondary approvals process for the proposed KI Seaport.” The company advised last month that the State Planning Commission had invited it to provide certain additional information on traffic and road networks, biosecurity and engineering design. This information was lodged with the Minister for Planning on December 22, 2020. Secondary approvals process KPT had anticipated these requirements as part of the secondary approvals for the KI Seaport project and had already completed much of the work. At the invitation of the commission, the company has now reached an initial agreement with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport for the next stage of the process. Lamb added: "It is our belief that the change in timing of the provision of this information will provide the Minister and the community of South Australia greater assurance of the benefits that this project will bring to Kangaroo Island.”
