S&P/ASX 200 (INDEXASX:XJO) fell 0.82% to 6,771.4 as US stocks closed mixed overnight after hitting record highs a day earlier. Investors are awaiting outcomes from monthly central banks meetings on monetary policy in the US, UK and Japan in the coming days. The US Federal Reserve’s two-day policy meeting will start on Wednesday. This will take centre stage, according to Carol Kong, a strategist at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. Kong explained in a morning note that both US bond yields and the US dollar could jump if the Fed’s post-meeting statement and Chair Jerome Powell’s remarks are not deemed dovish enough.
