S&P/ASX 200 gains 0.39% led by energy sector following a rise in global oil prices

S&P/ASX 200 (INDEXASX:XJO) has gained 0.39% to 7,092.6 points by 12.41 pm, less than three points away from last week’s 14-month high. The energy sector was the biggest gainer following a ~1.5% rise in global oil prices overnight on renewed hopes for rising fuel demand in the US as inventories declined. Santos (ASX:STO) and Woodside (ASX:WPL) have gained 1.1% and 1% respectively while Oil Search (OSH) rose 1.8%. Fortescue results Fortescue Metals Group (ASX:FMG) fell 0.7% after shipping 42.3 million tonnes over the March Quarter, flat on the year before but down 9% on the December quarter. The iron ore miner’s average revenue rose 17% quarter-on-quarter to US$143 per dry metric tonne but costs (C1) also increased by 16% quarter-on-quarter.
