It's out on August 19th...

Last week, French indie outfit Phoenix teased fans with the news that they had a new track arriving this week, their first release since their acclaimed 'Ti Amo' album in 2017.

The group lured fans in on Instagram with a photo of someone setting fire to a top with the word ‘Phoenix’ on it, perhaps a metaphor for a phoenix rising from the ashes (we’ll let you decide that one). The video confirmed the name of the single and a snippet of ‘Identical’, the track being released tomorrow.

The recent Instagram post revealing the bands new release was warmly received, confirming increasing rumours that they were eyeing up a return. Back in December 2019, Motorbass studio posted an image that hinted that the band were working on new material.

The Paris based studio was owned by their late collaborator Phillippe Zdar, whom the band owe a lot of their sound to. “He taught us that you could raise your life, Friendship, Love to the rank of major art. In all these areas he was an absolute genius”. He would be very proud of the band who are on course for a glimmering return, with their sound appearing to return to the sacred-well of evocative disco, fantastic hooks and innovative arrangements.

‘Identical’ is out on August 19th.
