"We will stand together..."

K-Pop icons *BTS* have shared a statement condemning anti-Asian hate.

The spread of coronavirus - thought to have originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan - seems to have ignited anti-Asian discrimination in the West, with the United States and European countries reporting a rise in hate crimes.

With the #StopAsianHate and #StopAAPIHate campaigns bringing these incidents to light, Korean stars BTS have offered some words in support.

In *a lengthy statement*, BTS discussed their "grief and anger" while alluding to the *Atlanta shootings* earlier this month.

BTS are explicit in their words:

“We stand against racial discrimination... We condemn violence. You, I and we all have the right to be respected. We will stand together.”

The group also look back on their own negative experiences, commenting:

“We recall moments when we faced discrimination as Asians. We have endured expletives without reason and were mocked for the way we look. We were even asked why Asians spoke in English.”

It reads:

We cannot put into words the pain of becoming the subject of hatred and violence for such a reason. Our own experiences are inconsequential compared to the events that have occurred over the past few weeks. But these experiences were enough to make us feel powerless and chip away our self-esteem. What is happening right now cannot be dissociated from our identity as Asians.
