Google faced renewed criticism for monopolistic behavior this week, with a U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee subcommittee hearing on "self-preferencing" by the search and advertising company, release of a Knight Foundation Gallup poll showing plummeting public approval for Google and other social media companies and the release on Friday of a report from the Save Journalism Project that blames Google for the emergence of dozens of news deserts in Texas: localities that are not served by a single local newspaper.
