NHRC issues notices to Centre, Delhi govt over mismanagement of COVID-19 situation
Thursday, 11 June 2020 The National Human Rights Commission on Wednesday issued notices to Delhi and Union Health Ministry about the harships faced by the citizens of the natonal capital due to non-availability of beds in the hospitals, and inadequate testing which are leading to huge loss of lives during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Preparations for Independence Day celebrations are in full swing ahead of August 15. In Jammu and Kashmir, a full dress rehearsal was done on August 11 in Udhampur. Only eight contingents participated in the rehearsal. Authorities have imposed precautionary measures amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Children and NCC have been told to not join the event. Meanwhile, in Delhi, security was beefed up in Delhi ahead of Independence Day. Police were seen checking vehicles at several places in the capital. Priests and 'sevadars' celebrated Krishna Janmashtami at Nand Bhavan Temple in Nandgaon in Mathura. Only priests and 'sevadars' celebrated the Krishna Janmashtami here, as temple is closed for public in view of coronavirus. 'Mangala Aarti' also performed on the occasion early in the morning. Large part of the country celebrated Janmashtami. In Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur, devotees offered prayers at Panchmata Temple. In Delhi, devotees offered prayers at Birla Mandir. The birth of Lord Krishna, believed to be the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu, is an annual Hindu festival celebrated as Janmashtami or Gokulashatami.
As the country is dipped in the festive mood, devotees offered prayers and sang devotional songs at ISKCON Temple on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami in the national capital. They danced to the tunes of devotional songs. Meanwhile, priests of Noida's ISKCON Temple also offered prayers and celebrated Krishna Janmashtami with religious zeal. Krishna Janmashtami is being celebrated in the country on August 11 and 12.

The cases of coronavirus continued to surge in India, however, fatality rate dipped to 1.99 %, informed Health Ministry. National Expert Group on vaccine administration has also been constituted by Centre. Maharashtra continues to witness surge of over 10,000 COVID-19 cases taking total tally in the state to 5,35,601. Delhi reported 1257 COVID-19 cases and 8 deaths on Aug 11. Karnataka recorded 6,257 COVID-19 cases today. While, Tamil Nadu reported 5,834 COVID-19 cases and 118 deaths so, total number of cases in the state is now at 3,08,649, including 2,50,680 discharged, 52,810 active cases and 5,159 deaths. Andhra Pradesh recorded 9024 cases. Country has conducted over 2.5 crore sample tests so far.
Health Ministry Secretary Rajesh Bhushan in a press conference on August 11 announced that National Expert Group has been constituted for vaccine administration. He said, "Government has constituted National Expert Group for vaccine administration which will meet tomorrow. Their terms of reference constitute all matters related to logistics of vaccines, ways to address issues of equity etc. This expert group will continue its engagement with all state governments and vaccine manufacturers in India."
