Pakistan violates ceasefire at Mankote sector in J&K's Poonch

Pakistan violated ceasefire in Mankote sector along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. "At about 8.30 hours on September 11, Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms and shelling with mortars along LoC in Mankote sector, District Poonch of Jammu and Kashmir," the Indian army said in a statement.

Higher reaches of Pir Panjal range in Jammu and Kashmir received fresh snowfall, following which snow clearing operations by local authority were underway on Mughal Road in Rajouri. Heavy machinery such as JCB is being used to clear snow in the region. The Mughal Road connects south Kashmir's Shopian to Rajouri and Poonch districts. On Monday, isolated heavy falls were observed over Jammu and Kashmir. The maximum temperature in Jammu was at 20.3 degree Celsius, while the minimum temperature was at 12.6 degree Celsius.

Pakistan on Thursday started unprovoked ceasefire violation in four sectors of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir. The four sectors where ceasefire was violated are Nowshera, Rajouri, Shahpur, Kirni and Qasba. Pakistan violated ceasefire by firing with small arms and mortars. This is the third consecutive day when Pakistan targeted hamlets and posts on the Indian side. Shelling by Pakistan drew a befitting retaliation by the India Army. Pakistani troops have violated the ceasefire 24 times this month.

Army Chief General MM Naravane on Saturday said that terrorists across the border are making desperate attempts to infiltrate into the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and disrupt normal democratic processes."With the ongoing situation on our western borders, terrorism continues to be a serious threat, and that is not abating in spite of all efforts made. There are terrorist launch pads and terrorists across the line of control (LoC) making desperate attempts to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir to disrupt normal democratic processes," Naravane said. He said that with the onset of winters, last-ditch attempts are being made to infiltrate before the passes close and level of snow make it impossible to cross over.
