‘You take care of mother, I will look aftermotherland’, wrote war hero to brothers

Company Havildar Major Saudagar Singh of 2 Rajput, a hero of the 1962 Sino-India war, single-handedly fought six PLA soldiers and rescued his injured superior officer and jawans. He was awarded the Vir Chakra for his bravery. Saudagar later joined the 1965 war against Pakistan, sacrificing his life in a mine blast along the LOC. He was passionate about educating children and villagers built a school in his memory. His great granddaughter-in-law is now urging the government to renovate the school and name the village after him.
