IIT-Jammu identified students who were weak in English and started language classes. The issue was discussed at an IIT directors' forum where extra measures for smooth transition were agreed upon. Diagnostic tests are conducted for language proficiency and supplementary materials are provided in Hindi. Coaching centres for JEE focus on science subjects, neglecting languages. IIT-Tirupati has a compulsory language course and IIT-Palakkad offers English classes. Screening is conducted for students without English in class 12.
